Raz-Lee introduces two new iSecurity modules to make multi-system administration easier.
Written by Chris Smith
More than 20 companies offer security solutions for the IBM i, a fact that represents something of an irony for a platform that is renowned for its security features. The lack of expertise within companies on how to take advantage of all the security features within the platform is legendary among security consultants who return from field assignments with eye-opening tales of horror.

You believe you're safe. But are you sure? Written by Heather Richards
So you've read the title, and I know what you're going to say. No way; not mine. It's a natural response. After all, you take security seriously. You've equipped your client PCs with anti-virus software, and you have solid network security in place on your Power Systems server. But are you certain that's enough?

IBM responds by introducing a host of integrated solutions to thwart Web application attacks.
Written by Chris Smith
The financial pressures that companies are under today certainly are being felt in IT departments all across the world. The result, clearly, is IT managers searching for more efficient and cost-effective solutions. While Web services, and more recently, cloud computing, appear to offer companies the means to reduce costs and improve service levels, they have opened up huge data vulnerabilities that IBM and its worldwide customers are scrambling to plug.

Despite the i5/OS operating system protections and reliability, enterprises using it crave more security. More than 50 products profiled below are successfully competing for System i user dollars. By John Ghrist Ah, security. In the post-9/11 world, is there anything so universally sought with so little agreement on how to reach the goal? Or perhaps it's more correct to say, with so little agreement on what the goal really is? In computing--no less than in real life--the very idea of security has come to be an overriding concern even as the concept of what it constitutes becomes more and more diffuse. |

Certainly, you're much too wise to think that a network appliance will protect your data. Or are you? by John Earl Security solutions are all the same, right? If it runs well on Linux or Windows, it ought to work well on the System i, right? If you're a dyed-in-the-wool System i professional, you probably don't believe that. You're well aware of the differences between the System i operating systems (IBM i, i5/OS, OS/400) and the popular UNIX flavors. But sometimes you have to convince other IT team members in your organization that the solutions they've deployed on other platforms are not necessarily the best fit for the System i. |

Do you really know that your security is what it should and could be? By John Earl Editor's Note: This article is an excerpt from the white paper "The State of System i (AS/400) Security," which can be downloaded free from the MC White Paper Center. How good is the security on your IBM i (System i, iSeries, AS/400)? Are you confident about the controls you have put in place? Can you demonstrate that you're compliant with regulatory requirements that affect your industry? Do you know whether your system is better secured than the average System i? |
